Activities encouraging imaginary and creative play

Testimonial - T. Mladenovska

"We had the pleasure of trialing The Fish Tank Program with my two girls, 8 and 4 years old. This was particularly relevant as my 4 year old has been having trouble expressing her emotions and clearly communicating her feelings and needs. My 8 year old, on the other hand, just needed better language to describe situational emotions. So I wasn't sure what to expect. We had done emotional charts/face posters in the past with limited success.

We did the whole activity again the next day too. Our favourite part is the fridge magnets that we still have on our fridge and our 4 year old daughter often plays with them and can (and does) just point to the appropriate corresponding fish whenever she wants to communicate something specific without getting frustrated or misunderstood or having to look for the best words. Her favourite one at the moment is 'Joy' - especially if ice cream is involved.

I would highly recommend the Fish Tank as a great learning experience which keeps giving as well as a fun family activity."
In the end, it was a very pleasant surprise, as we found the program to be engaging, clear and quite fun. The kids played with it for hours. I initially felt like it would be something more relevant for my younger daughter but they both participated and completed all the available activities. The toys were incredibly tactile and a hit, but my older daughter quite enjoyed reading out loud the book for each one (to the group) while we passed them around.  We then did the memory game to reinforce some of the new descriptions and emotions we had identified and learned. My 4 year old, especially, found it very helpful and had a sense of achievement when it was all done. The contents in the booklets were well thought out, appropriate and engaging for both age groups.
